Local ski resorts mapL'Ecuela, The Old School is situated in the heart of the Portes du Soleil, offering a vast range of activities. The chalet rental sits in a peaceful location in Les Onchets, a small hamlet above the village of St Jean D'Aulps, in the Haute Savoie region of France in the French Alps. The Portes du Soleil is the biggest linked ski resort and mountain bike park in the world with over 600 km of slopes! 

We can arrange for additional activities either within the chalet or away from the chalet. Below is a range of possibilities in the local area. Please be aware though that some of these activities may not be available outside of winter or summer season.

Winter activities include:


BIATHLON: Initiation possible at the ESF in Morzine or Avoriaz, or during special animations in some resorts

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: There are fabulous opportunities for cross-country skiing in the Portes du Soleil, along superb, panoramic routes that follow the area's contours, in forests and elsewhere. In total, 280km of signposted routes to choose from.

FITNESS, WELLNESS & YOGA: We can arrange for fitness and yoga instructors to come to the chalet or for guests to join pre-organised classes. We can also arrange for a mobile massage and/or reflexology therapist to come to the chalet to provide a wide range of treatments in the comfort of the chalet.

HELI-SKIING: is not permitted in France, but some ski schools, adventure companies and mountain guide companies will offer a pick-up/drop-off heli skiing service to Italy or Switzerland.

HELICOPTER FLIGHTS: Daily panoramic helicopter flights are available (weather permitting) with a number of local flight companies. 

HORSE-DRAWN SLEIGH RIDES: are available in all large resorts and are the main form of transport as
Avoriaz is a traffic-free resort horses double up as taxis here - to get you from the car park to your apartment, out for the night, anywhere in fact that you want to go. 

HORSE RIDING: Leaving the beaten track for a timeless horseride is a simple way of enjoying the mountains AND IS POSSIBLE EVEN IN THE SNOW. Our accredited horseriding guide will take you through authentic and unspoilt Aulps Valley.

HUSKY SLEDGING:  There's no need to go to Canada, Alaska or Scandinavia to experience this unique activity, as professional dog and sledge handlers are on hand here in the Portes du Soleil and in the Bellevaux La Chèvrerie area of the Espace Roc d'Enfer ski resortto show you what to do

ICE DIVING: is possible in Lac Montriond

ICE RINKS: either outdoors in La Grande Terche, Morzine, Avoriaz or Les Gets or indoors at the Parc des Dérèches

INDOOR SWIMMING: including an Indoor swimming Pool/Spa in Morzine and Aquariaz in Avoriaz 

MOUNTAINEERING: from Ice-climbing to Alpinisme, you can find information from the Bureau des Guides de Morzine Avoriaz

NORDIC WALKING / SNOWSHOEING: There are many hiking routes available in winter. It's therefore possible for everyone to enjoy the magnificent panoramas and trails on offer in the Portes du Soleil, including in our local area. Please visit the local tourist office for details.

PARAGLIDING / PARAPENTING: There are a great number of clubs and organisations in the area whose sole purpose is give you the experience of flying

RAQUETT'ARC: Snowshoes, with a bow and arrow, all necessary equipment is provided to implement the activity

SKI JOERING / HORSE-DRAWN SKIING: This age-old activity, consisting of being pulled along on skis by a horse, is made for all those animal lovers who are also passionate about rich experiences. Many resorts in the Portes du Soleil offer ski joering.


SKI TOURING: Along the winter season, the Vallée d'Aulps challenge offers 6 events that take place in Morzine and the Vallée d’Aulps (infos: Tourist Office).You can either enlist the help of a professional or enjoy ski touring by yourself – and take advantage of the Haute-Savoie’s most stunning mountain views (Chablais, Mont-Blanc…).

SLEDGING: There are plenty of lovely sledging areas, including up the hill, right behind he chalet. You can also go up in the cable car and then sledge down the Pléney ski runs at night. Night sledding also takes place in Avoriaz on a special 3km long track. Go up using the ski lifts and come down on a sledge with a head torch. Minimum age 16 in Avoriaz.

SNOWMOBILING / SKIDOOING: Snowmobiling can be a fun, fast, snowy activity. It is held in the evenings, from 5.30pm to 10.30pm in Morzine and Avoriaz

YOONER: Sitting just 20cm from the ground, the thrills you get from a Yooner ride are astonishing.Light and easy to use, it also has a shock absorber for a comfier ride, and a metal blade that can carve, just like skis
 

Summer activities include:


ADVENTURE PARKS: Scoot from branch to branch in one of the many adventure parks in the area where there's an all-natural circuit with monkey ladders and rope bridges too, so you can explore the forest in safety from up above!

AQUA PARKS AND SWIMMING POOLS: From mountain lakes, water parks, swimming pools, to beaches on Lake Geneva, there are many opportunities to cool down on a hot summer day

ARCHERY: Course supervised by qualified instructors in order to improve the movement and the aiming in a number of places in the area.

CANOEING AND PADDLE BOARDING: Montriond's canoe/kayak club rents kayaks, standup paddle and canoes in Lake Montriond's stunning and preserved setting.

CLIMBING AND VIA FERRATA: Come and discover rock-climbing on real rock faces. The Vallée d'Aulps has an abundance of climbing spots suitable for all levels.

CRASY GOLF: Come and discover rock-climbing on real rock faces. The Vallée d'Aulps has an abundance of climbing spots suitable for all levels.

DISC GOLF: Frisbee-golf: a fun outdoor activity for friends and families in the heart of Dereches forest.

FISHING: Fishing in the Vallée d’Aulps is a fun way of experiencing the great outdoors. It’s also a peaceful and privileged opportunity to see another side to the valley.

GOLF: 2 golf courses at the heart of the Portes du Soleil, nestled amon the trees with beautiful views.

HIKING: There are many hiking routes available in the Portes du Soleil making it possible for everyone to enjoy the magnificent panoramas and trails on offer in the wider area, including in our local area. Please visit the local tourist office for details and maps.

HORSE AND PONEY RIDING: Fine sunny days are the ideal time to let young children discover the joy of pony-riding. Older children and adults can try horse-riding on longer trails, taking in all the breathtaking views along the way.

ICE RINK: indoors at the Parc des Dérèches

LASERGAME: A battle of wits where you score points by using your laser sights to mark other players. The game can be played individually or in teams. Games are outdoors and last around 15-30 minutes.

PAINTBALL: Halfway between Saint Jean d'Aulps and Morzine by the river (opposite Carrefour Supermarket), the forest is an ideal setting for an outdoor game involving two teams who take each other on with air-powered paint pistols

SPELEOLOGY: Caving, or speleology, is an unforgettable, exciting pastime underground. With a headtorch, all-in-one, harness and acetylene torch, you'll head off into a fairytale world where time stands still

SQUASH: Two squash courts IN Avoriaz open every day from 9 am to 7 pm. Booking at the Tourist Office desk

SUMMER SLEDGING: 2 different pistes and lengths, situated at the start of the Crusaz Chairlift. From 3 years old. Children under 8 years old (minimum size 1.25 m) must go with an adult

TENNIS: Coaching will be available for all ages (starting from age 4) or court hire on clay courts or hard surface.

TRAMPOLINES: Acrobatic Flight Center System is waiting to enable children and adults have fun on different kinds of trampoline or porticos elastic of 12m and some bungee.

WHITE WATER ACTIVITIES: Several mountain streams now include equipment designed for fun descents alternating abseiling, jumps and natural waterslides. Activities include rafting, hot-dog, hydrospeed, canoeing, kayaking or canyoning
